Hi there!
Happy October 🍂There are 11 weeks left in the year, and if, upon reading that, your first instinct was “Holy sh!t, the year is almost over,” consider that there are also 11 weeks between January 1 and March 18th… time is relative.
There’s still much more than half a quarter left in the year! The next 2.5 months can be the difference between a year where you just tried to hold on, and one of the most transformative years in your life.
So, if you’re ready to leverage the last few months of the year, I have some great self-coaching questions for you. Let’s get to it!
1. What net new resume bullet points can I write?
→ What initiatives do I want to close out?
→ Where else can I create impact?
You should always be learning, growing, and living new stories to tell. Professionally, these stories shine through in your resume. If you find that you’re just figuratively writing and re-writing the same bullet points, you’re officially stuck.
That’s why I frequently share this framework with my clients: you should always be living out net new bullet points for your resume, even if you’re not job searching. Think through the rest of this year and identify the 1-2 baller new bullet points that you want to bring to life. What new stories can you squeeze from the year?
2. What net new bullet points did I already write this year?
→ What did I already accomplish in 2024?
→ What accolades should I add to my brag book?
After charting your course ahead for the rest of 2024, take stock of the past several months and list out the net new stories you can already add to your resume. Where have you had impact? Where did you help others get a win? How did you lead exceptionally well?
This is also a great time to take screenshots of all the nice things people have said about your work in Slack / email. Save those love notes! This portfolio of impact will come in handy for your next performance review and/or your next job search.
3. How can I set myself up for success next year?
→ Where do I want to go next year?
→ What do I need to do to make that easy AF?
While you’re thinking about your growth and what’s left to accomplish this year, it’s time to start thinking ahead to 2025. Consider the growth you want to have, the impact you want to make, and how you want to bring that to fruition. What support, guidance, or knowledge can you shore up now? If you lay the foundation now, you’ll be set up to actualize big wins in January.
2024 is your year; I can feel it. Let’s finish it with purpose, impact, and a story worth telling - because you’re building momentum for something even greater in 2025.
Cheering for you,
McKay
